UMSL's Sandra Diamond
receives Kids Voting USA award

Sandra I. Diamond,
coordinator in the College of Education at the University of
Missouri-St. Louis and director of Kids Voting Missouri, has
received the 2006 Barbara Ericksen Affiliate Excellence Award
from Kids Voting USA.
Kids Voting USA is a
national program through which K-12 students study citizenship
and then go to Kids Voting polls on Election Day with their
parents or other adults to cast ballots on the same candidates
and issues as registered voters.
The Barbara Ericksen
Affiliate Excellence Award is national award given annually to
one local Kids Voting director who demonstrates a commitment to
the goals and mission of the program. Diamond received the award
during Kids Voting USA's annual meeting in early June in Tempe,
Ariz.
Diamond oversees Kids
Voting Missouri, which serves 27 school districts throughout the
state and involves about 247,000 students, 16,000 teachers, 500
schools and 2,500 volunteers. She has been involved in the
program since 1999.
