Program Summary

The purpose of marketing tobacco to children is to create life long customers. Understanding the nature of advertising
and the affects of imaging helps students become critical consumers of media.

This project's goal is to prevent youth from using tobacco and to reduce exposure to smoking in workplaces by mobilizing students, teachers, parents and community leaders to work together against these problems.

aOur project is grounded in the lessons of previous public health campaigns, which demonstrate that the greater the investment in comprehensive programs of evidence-based components, the greater the health benefits.

The program consists of several initiatives including the following:

  • Campus-Community Alliances Ready for a Smoke-Free Missouri

An innovative campus-community alliance that provides leadership training for tobacco control, addresses workplace smoking bans and promotes smoking cessation in identified priority municipalities.

  • School-Home-Community Partnerships for a Smoke-Free Missouri

Provides middle schools and high schools with empowering educational tools and resources for teachers, students, parents and community leaders who customize school-based curricula and develop tobacco-prevention projects.
