Stephen Sherblom
Dr. Stephen
A. Sherblom is an Assistant Professor
in Educational Psychology, Research, and Evaluation.
Before
coming to UMSL, he held a one-year appointment at Pennsylvania State
University, and previous to that a post-doctoral fellowship in
Psychology at Washington University in St. Louis. Stephen received his
doctorate in Human Development and Psychology at Harvard University
under the guidance of Dr. Carol Gilligan. His dissertation research, Moral Sensibility and Experience in Young Children explored forms of
moral knowing in children's narratives of moral conflict and identity.
He
completed his masters at Harvard University in Personality and Social
Psychology. His undergraduate work was at the University of
Massachusetts, Boston, where he earned a dual degree in philosophy and
psychology, focusing on ethics and moral development.
Stephen is active in regional,
national, and international professional organizations. He is a member
of the Board of the Association of Moral Education (AME); he is a member
of the Association for Teacher Educators (ATE), and sits on their
Commission for Affective Education; and is Vice-President of the Midwest
Association for Teachers of Educational Psychology (MATEP). He presents
at scholarly conferences including the Association for Educational
Research, the Association of Moral Education, the Department of
Education’s Safe and Drug-Free Schools Conference; the Character
Education Forum, and the Midwest Association for Teachers of Educational
Psychology.
He currently teaches Introduction
to Learners and Learning, Psychology of Adolescence, Qualitative Methods
in Educational Research II, Lifespan: Individual & Family Development,
and Moral Development and Education. Publications include:
