Stein, Ph.D.
Dr. Stein is the Chair and
Professor of Political Science and Professor of Public
Policy Administration
Professor Stein's research
focuses on urban policy and administration. Her books
include, St. Louis Politics: The Triumph of Tradition (2002), City Schools and City Politics:
Institutions and Leadership in Pittsburgh, Boston, and
St. Louis (1999), and Holding Bureaucrats
Accountable: Politicians and Professionals in St. Louis (1991). Her teaching includes courses on urban politics
as well as the proseminar in public policy
administration. Her focus in the latter is on
organization theory and a neo-institutional approach to
understanding bureaucracy in the U.S. She has also
published articles in the Journal of Politics, Political Research Quarterly, Urban Affairs
Review, and other major journals.
She received her Ph.D. from
Michigan State University.
